We imbue all sorts of ages with meaning as life goes on. Your first birthday, sixteenth, eighteenth, twenty-first — then you hit this one.

Your sixty-fifth, once a magic age symbolic of retirement. When you could take life easy, and stop sweating the small stuff. At least, that’s the promise that my parents had as WWII-era adults.
